A Coast Guard Reserve coxswain explains her role as the individual in charge of a boat and everyone on it.

Coast Guard reservists serve two days a month and two weekends a year, and they often live within 100 miles of their Coast Guard Reserve unit. Opportunities will depend on the state in which you live, but the benefits, including tuition assistance, low-cost health care and space-available flights, remain the same.
