Search and Seizure
Department of Defense

Members of the Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team help secure the crew of a drug-smuggling vessel in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia. The Coast Guardsmen seized and disposed of more than two tons of illegal narcotics after boarding the vessel.

Upholding the law is a major part of Coast Guard operations. Although many Guardians work in domestic waters, they may be deployed overseas to fight drug smuggling and piracy.
