The Army Reserve Edge - Transcript

Capt. Jennifer Huntsman: My most favorite thing about the Army Reserve is the people. I love going to work. I love being part of an organization that everybody has volunteered to be there.

Capt. Valerie Wallis: What you really learn to do is to rely on the people that you work with, your team members, in order to accomplish the mission, and get the job done.

1st Lt. Heather Cupitt: The Army Reserve is very flexible when it comes to moving around. If I needed to move for family purposes, or another great job opened up for me, the Army Reserve would work with me to put in the transfer to another unit.

1st Lt. Terrance Wilson: That's why I joined the Army Reserve. Because I'm able to serve here, close to my home.

Capt. Valerie Wallis: I drill on the weekends, and I work my civilian job during the week, so there's not really any type of juggling that goes on as far as the two jobs. You're an Army Reservist, and you're also working at a civilian job.

1st Lt. Terrance Wilson: My civilian employer understands that it's because of the skills that I've acquired in the Army Reserve that makes me a better employee. As a civilian, there's not many courses that really focus on leadership, and these are the type of abilities that civilian employers are looking for in people that they're hiring.

1st Lt. Heather Cupitt: Employers on the civilian side, they absolutely love the fact that I'm in the Army Reserve. They know that I'm committed to my job, they know that I can be a leader, that I take my job seriously.

Capt. Valerie Wallis: Being an officer in the Army Reserve is a great way to continue to develop your leadership skills, and to take what you've learned back into the boardroom to be an even more effective business leader.

1st Lt. Heather Cupitt: The Army Reserve completes all the required schools, just like active duty. We get the same opportunities as they do.

Capt. Jennifer Huntsman: And a lot of our education in the signal field is also certified by Cisco and Microsoft, so these are big name brands that the civilians spend lots of money on. And I got all that training for free, and not only was it for free, I was being paid to go to these schools.

1st Lt. Terrance Wilson: You can't win if you don't finish. And the Army Reserve has taught me to finish the fight.

Capt. Jennifer Huntsman: I could get out whenever I want to, but I choose to stay, because I like what I do. And I'm able to be part of something bigger than just myself.
