The Military operates thousands of airplanes and helicopters. In addition to piloting these aircraft, Aviation officers perform key duties in navigation, air traffic control and flight operations. Jobs in this career field require intense training and grace under pressure. While many aircraft are flown domestically, there is also a lot of opportunity for international travel.
Possible Responsibilities
- Pilot aircraft
- Inspect aircraft before and after flights
- Monitor engine instruments and adjust controls
- Manage air traffic control center operations to ensure safe flights
- Investigate and solve problems in control center operations
- Direct aircraft course using radar, sight and other navigation methods
- Operate bombardier systems during bombing runs
- Develop flight plans showing air routes and schedules
