USMA Distributed Cyber Defense Solution
US Army | Apr. 27, 2022

West Point, N.Y.: “It’s no secret that modern warfare is expanding beyond conventional means such as land, air and sea,” said the United States Military Academy (USMA) Cadet Joseph Cilenti. “As near-peer adversaries such as China and Russia grow more proficient in their offensive cyber techniques, innovation in cyber space is critically important.”
The network(s) at USMA serves a dual purpose. They provide an environment conducive to learning for cadets while maintaining opportunities to advance secure communications for experimentation and daily military use.
“Our team has developed the Distributed Cyber Defense Solution (DCDS), a network monitoring toolkit that not only has the capability to defend the networks at West Point, but also has the ability to aid all networks where it is deployed,” Cilenti said.
DCDS allows any individual to view flagged and potential malicious data, network health and statistics such as network flow data.
“As the United States Army adapts to this new cyber domain of warfare, we hope to contribute new technologies, such as the one our team created,” Cilenti said.
West Point's 23rd annual Projects Day will showcase more than 400 research projects by over 1,000 cadets! We welcome and celebrate the over 80 external partners and West Point faculty who contributed to these cadet-led projects. Follow along by signing up for the Projects Day App and learn more about the Academics at West Point.
