Overview
Vocalists read, sing, and memorize vocal parts for public performances. They perform in a variety of musical performance units, such as chorus, popular musical ensemble, jazz band, country band, quartet, and soloist. Vocalists perform to boost morale, entertain, and assist with military ceremonies. They are part of a group of talented musicians who support the Military’s mission around the world.
Military Training
All enlisted service members complete basic military training which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field and covers tactical and survival skills physical training military life and customs and weapons training. Although musicians must be musically proficient to enter the service music training is given to new band members. Vocalists in the Military will gain skills through regular rehearsals individual practice and on-the-job experience. Job-specific training content may include:
- Music theory
- Sight-reading musical scores
- Sight singing and ear training
