CAPTAIN

Micheal Dorsey

Platoon Commander/Instructor

Captain Michael Dorsey turned down lucrative offers from the corporate world after graduating from Portland State University, opting instead to join the Marines. An avid sportsman, he thinks of the Military as a team sport, where everybody has a vested interest in doing well.

"The biggest thing that the Military has done for me is to give me the opportunity to lead at a very young age."

As a Marine Corps officer and instructor at The Basic School in Quantico. Va., Micheal coaches and mentors many newly commissioned officers on how to lead and inspire enlisted Marines.

Growing up, Micheal played football, basketball, baseball, track in high school and then played football throughout college. "So i'm very used to a team mentality: This is the goal that we have and everybody has to do their part in order to achieve that goal. And then coming into the Military, that's exactly what we do, regardless of the specific job you do in the Marines. Everybody has to do their part and contribute."

While Micheal is training the next generation of leaders, he understands the importance of the lessons he's imparting. "The biggest thing that the Military has done for me is to give me the opportunity to lead at a very young age," he says. "When I look at my peers I went to high school and college with, a lot of people are just getting started."
